I’m a writer. At least I am on evenings, weekends, and some lunch breaks. I write in journals, notebooks, on my phone, in the margins of books, on scraps of paper – and if I’m working or can’t write, I will write mentally until I can put the words on paper or screen. All day the words spark and sputter in my heart and brain, and I cannot fall asleep until I’ve written them down.

Writing is not my career or vocation, but I write because I can’t help it. I cannot NOT write. I’m not saying I’m any good. I know I have so much to learn, but I’m trying to accept the fact that being a writer is part of who I am, and part of who God made me to be.

I’m tempted to think that the world doesn’t need more books, blogs, or opinions. Is writing a futile effort? For all of the hours, cups of coffee, and research, is it worth it? This I do know:

To not use the gifts and passions the Lord has given me is wrong.

He makes us all different for a reason, with specific callings, passions, and gifts. When I don’t use my gifts, or label them as worthless, I am insulting the God who gave them to me.

“But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the One who formed it, ‘Why did You make me like this?'” – Romans 9:20, NIV

Another thing I know:  I do not want my head to be a bookshelf full of these:

We all have things to say, stories to tell, and hearts to share. I believe God values our stories, and wants to use them for His glory. He GAVE us the gifts of language, words, communication, thoughts, ideas, discussion, etc. He CREATED your unique perspective and wants you to share it with others. He made us to be stewards of these gifts, and wants us to use them wisely, to encourage others and to glorify God.

Let’s use our gifts and glorify God together. I’m in. You?

Several people have mentioned my writing lately, and asked me if I still do it. The answer is YES. However, not much writing makes it to the blog, and of what does, I keep it concise (I am well aware of short attention spans).

I’m also not ready to share stuff yet, I’m working on things, but writing takes TIME.

I’m working on a book, my goal is to publish by 25 (the goal used to be 30, but I got ambitious and moved it. I’m 21.)

For those of you who have consistently read my blog and supported my writing (what little I decide to share) THANK YOU.  Please stick around. Maybe I’ll have more courage soon and start posting some of the things I’m working on ;)
